Buffett Rocks Indy with Help of Katie Couric

July 31st, 2012

Jimmy Buffett made his annual trek to Indianapolis on Tuesday night, playing a show at the Klipsch Music Center (formerly the Verizon Wireless Music Center).

You can view the set list from the show here.

Jimmy had some help on a couple songs from Katie Couric:

Couric hung out with Jimmy backstage earlier in the summer at his Mohegan Sun show. At that time she said that she would be doing segments on her upcoming talk show where people check items off their bucket list. After seeing Katie’s enthusiasm for Buffett every time he appeared on the Today Show, it’s safe to say that playing a Reeferette at a Buffett show was probably on her bucket list.

The tour continues Thursday night in Cincinnati. Get your tickets now.

Detroit Welcomes the Lounging at the Lagoon Tour

July 29th, 2012

After years of playing the amphitheater just outside Detroit, Jimmy Buffett was downtown in the Motor City Saturday night for a show at Comerica Park, home of the Tigers.

The Detroit Free Press has a review of the show:

On a delectable July night — 75 degrees when Buffett took the stage just before 10 p.m. — it was a virtual beach trip, a Saturday night staycation for a crowd of 39,000-plus.

Backed by idyllic ocean imagery on massive high-def screens, Buffett and his 11-member Coral Reefer Band rolled through a 2-hour, 10-minute set of hits and enduring fan favorites.

Steel drums, pedal steel guitars and breezy island rhythms rolled under Buffett’s Southern lilt through a series of crowd pleasers: the opening “One Particular Harbour,” a cover of Sam Cooke’s “Another Saturday Night,” the romping “Gypsies in the Palace,” a bouncy “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes.” Buffett was joined by Detroit native Earl Klugh — whom he introduced as “one of the great, great jazz guitarists” — for “Jamaica Mistaica.”

Lionel Richie opened the night, playing a 65-minute set of his greatest hits. Richie joined Buffett later for a duet of “All Night Long.”

Miami Heat star Shane Battier was also at the show and filled in on the bongos during “Margaritaville.” Before coming out on stage, Battier tweeted: “About to play Congas @jimmybuffett concert. Oh lord, please don’t let me mess this up.”

Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant in Atlantic City Announced

July 24th, 2012

At a press conference in Atlantic City today, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Jimmy Buffett announced that the Margaritaville brand is coming to the Jersey shore:

Margaritaville is coming to Atlantic City. The Margaritaville project, slated for Resorts, could be open as early as May, 2013. Governor Chris Christie, Senate President Steven Sweeney, Resorts executive Aaron Gomes and Jimmy Buffett were on hand to announce the project.

The Margaritaville complex will feature a casino, a year-round beach bar complex, a restaurant, Five O’ clock Somewhere Bar, retail stores, Landshark Bar and Grill, and the first-ever coffee shop among all of the Margaritaville properties. The Resorts facade will be re-themed with the Margaritaville brand.

More from Galloway Patch:

He said giving Resorts the Margaritaville makeover will be a $35 million project that will created about 250 construction jobs and about 162 permanent jobs for those living in the area. The project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2013.

He said in addition to a casino and restaurant, Margaritaville will offer a year-round beach bar and a coffee shop, among other luxuries.

“We have great things happening in Atlantic City,” said Christie, who referred to the South Inlet Improvement, the Boardwalk Relighting, and the Steel Pier Renovation projects.
