Article On Buffett’s Business Empire

December 29th, 2008

The AP’s Nicholas K. Geranios has an article on Jimmy Buffett’s business empire: “Jimmy Buffett, Mogul of Margaritaville”

How big is Buffett?

With an estimated annual income of more than $40 million, you might mistake his portfolio for that of Warren Buffett (not a relative). And he’s done it by sailing beyond most musicians’ ticket, T-shirt and poster revenue stream.

The title of his most popular song is showing up on restaurants, clothing, booze and casinos. Among the products he’s involved with are Landshark Lager, the Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chains, clothing and footwear, household items and drink blenders. The Margaritaville cafe on the Las Vegas strip is said to be the top grossing restaurant in the nation.

From Under My Lone Palm: Tarpon Documentary

December 29th, 2008

Time for the last From Under My Lone Palm of the year, and this month Justin reviews the Tarpon Fishing Documentary that was recently made available by the Margaritaville Key West:

If you’re up on the Coconut Telegraph, you are aware that this 1974 documentary
on Tarpon fishing in the Keys was recently made available on DVD from Margaritaville in Key West. When I saw it as I was flipping through those pages I knew I had to have it. And now I do. So sit back and enjoy a little review of this fine film.

A Christmas Message From Jimmy

December 26th, 2008

Jimmy Buffett has posted a special Christmas message on Margaritaville.com from his boat in St Barth’s:

Good Morning all and Merry Christmas. I am up early waiting for sunrise and the dawn patrol to my surf beach. The line that obviously comes to me now is “these days I am up about the time I used to go to bed”. My kids are now teenagers, which means present opening has gone from 6;30am to 10:00a.m., which translates in my world to the fact that I can go out and score some early morning Christmas waves, have breakfast and be back for present opening. There are some things about getting older that are not so bad. There are many thoughts that could pour out of my head this morning, considering the years I have piled up here on the planet, but I will only put down one here. 62 years ago at this moment (counting the time change from St. Barth to Pascagoula), I was 2hrs and 21 minutes old. That in itself seems miraculous. I hope you have a miraculous moment today as well. Still rockin’ in the free world.

One Love
