I had to think for a minute, "What cap?" Then it hit me. You're talking about the Yankees. The Yankees and the Dodgers are the only ones who ever have to deal with the "luxury tax" because they spend twice as much as the Cardinals to get 75% of the results.JeffASaul wrote:Same here for the Yankees.Air M'Ville Cap'n wrote:That's a pricey deal. Once again I'm glad the Cards didn't spend that kind of cash on him.
Talk about mortgaging your future though... He will count as $15MM against the cap for SEVEN years after this contract ends, assuming he even finishes the contract.

I really like Joe Kelly. I wish he was still a Cardinal.

Cardinals sign P Carlos Villanueva
The Cards have reached a minor league pact with righty Carlos Villanueva, Derrick Goold of the
St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Villanueva will receive an invitation to big league camp.
The 31-yr-old swingman spent the past 2 seasons with the Cubs. He was hit hard when working
from the rotation, but Villanueva held opposing hitters to a .226/.284/.364 slash in 237 plate
appearances when pitching from the bullpen.
Villanueva looks to be a solid depth addition to the Redbirds staff.
