Rangers 1B Prince Fielder done with baseball effective immediately
Prince Fielder announced to the media that he has hit the end of his baseball career. After having spinal fusion
surgery on his neck, the doctors informed Fielder he can't play ball anymore.
Fielder was acquired by TEX from DET on Nov. 20, 2013, for 2B Ian Kinsler. His first season was cut short because
of a herniated disk in his neck, and he underwent season-ending surgery on May 27, 2014.
Fielder is not officially retired, but he will spend the next 4 years on the 60-day disabled list. The remaining four years
and $96 million of his contract will still be paid, split up between the Rangers, Tigers and an insurance policy. TEX will
be reimbursed for a significant portion of the annual salary through insurance, and the Tigers still owe $6 million per
year as part of the original trade agreement.

Cardinals may decline OF Matt Holiday's '17 club option
STL anticipates declining the club’s 2017 option over Matt Holliday, per GM John Mozeliak, as Derrick Goold of
the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was among those to report.
Holliday will, however, be activated from the DL in the hopes that he can make at least one final appearance
before the St. Louis faithful. Holliday may return of course, but it’s not really known whether there’s serious
interest on either side in negotiating a new contract.
Holliday has issued a statement thanking the organization, his teammates, and the fans for his time with the Cards,
via MLB.com’s Jenifer Langosch. He, too, kept the door cracked for a return.
