It turns out that Jimmy Buffett and Warren Buffett aren’t related afterall. Fortune magazine has an article on the issue: “The Buffett mystery”
About two months ago Warren and Jimmy submitted DNA to 23andMe (an ancestry firm started by Google founder Sergey Brin and his wife, Anne Wojcicki.)
When the results came back a month later, Wojcicki – a 33-year-old Yale grad and former health-care industry analyst – and her associate Joanna Mountain called Warren from 23andMe’s offices, just half a mile from Google’s Mountain View, Calif., campus, and broke the news that he need not include Jimmy in his will. In fact, “I’m as closely related to you as Jimmy is,” said Mountain, the head of 23andMe’s ancestry product line and a former professor of anthropological genetics at Stanford.
As it turns out, Jimmy and Warren do have common ancestors, but you have to go back more than 10,000 years to find them. That’s before surnames, folks. “Bottom line: We’re not related,” Warren wrote to his sister Doris, the family genealogist, who opened this whole can of worms many years ago.

The East Hampton Star has an article on Helen Bransford, illustrator and co-author with Jimmy on his next book “Swine Not?”, due out November 27th:
“Swine Not” follows the adventures of Rumpy the pig and friends, including the pigeolantes (pigeon vigilantes) who “watch the airspace in the city, to prevent animals from falling out windows.” Like Forky, Rumpy is forced to live undercover in an apartment, only venturing outside when well disguised as a dog or when wearing her favorite pink wig.
“I was staying at Jane and Jimmy’s,” she said, referring to Mr. Buffett and his wife. “Jimmy said, ‘Let me read it, and took it on his sailboat overnight.’ The next day he told me he wanted to edit it and add layers. He got into it. Took it to a fantastic level. He likes animals.” She said it was originally meant to be a children’s book, and probably still was, although it was one that should appeal to easily amused adults.

Jimmy Buffett and Harrah’s Entertainment announced on Tuesday plans for Margaritaville Casino & Resort on the shores of Biloxi, Mississippi.
The Margaritaville project is expected to cost more than $700 million, representing the single largest investment in Mississippi since Hurricane Katrina, Harrah’s announced in a statement.
“I have always considered myself a “Gulf Coast kid,” Buffet said in a statement released by Harrah’s. “I was born there, grew up there and jumped on a stage for the first time there, before hitting the road. I have seen the world, traveled to distant shores, written a few songs and lived a few tall tales along the way, and now it is good to be coming back home.“
Margaritaville Casino & Resort will be developed on 46 acres of land south of U.S. 90 in Biloxi on the site formerly occupied by Grand Casino and Casino Magic. With a projected development start date of summer 2007, the Margaritaville Casino & Resort should be completed by spring 2010.

West Seattle author Clay Eals spent the past four years researching and writing a book called “Steve Goodman: Facing the Music.”
A songwriter and performer in the 1970s and early ’80s, Goodman’s most famous song was “City of New Orleans,” which was made into a hit by Arlo Guthrie. A lyric from the song was the inspiration for the name of the TV program “Good Morning America.”
Goodman also wrote “Banana Republics” and “This Hotel Room” for Jimmy Buffett.
Eals, a North Admiral resident and former editor of the West Seattle Herald, interviewed more than 1,100 people for the book. Among them were a score of musicians including Jackson Browne, Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Randy Newman, Pete Seeger, Doc Watson and Loudon Wainwright III.
Goodman opened 200 times for comedian Steve Martin, who wrote that it took only about 30 seconds for Goodman to capture an audience.
