Update – Radio Margaritaville had technical difficulties at the end of the show. “Tonight I Just Need My Guitar” and “In My Room” were not aired due to a local power loss backstage. They are working on re-airing the lost songs in the near future.
The Houston Chronicle has an article on what it took to get Buffett to come to Minute Maid Park for a show.
Jimmy Buffett’s concert Saturday night at Minute Maid Park took six months to negotiate, but the ball really started rolling three years ago when the Houston Astros hired Jay Lucas to run their communications department.
Astros president of business operations Pam Gardner “mentioned that the team was interested in getting a show or two at Minute Maid,” Lucas said. “The first person I thought of was Jimmy Buffett. He hadn’t played Houston in a long time. When you check out the way he packs concerts all over the country, I figured if you’re looking for someone to play here, he’s the one.”
Lucas called Buffett’s management and said, “We’d like to have Jimmy play Minute Maid Park. What do we have to do to get him here?”
…While Buffett had played several baseball stadiums in the past, including Wrigley Field in Chicago and Fenway Park in Boston, he was not looking to do a baseball stadium this year.

The CMT Music Awards were held Monday night in Nashville, Tennessee. Buffett was nominated for Wide Open Country Video Of The Year for “Bama Breeze,” but was beaten out by Jack Ingram’s “Love You.”
“Just to be mentioned in the same breath as Johnny Cash is an honor. And to be nominated with Jimmy Buffett and Sheryl Crow, I’m honored,” said Ingram.
Don Ho, an entertainer who defined popular perceptions of Hawaiian music in the 1960s and held fast to that image as a peerless Waikiki nightclub attraction, died Saturday morning in Honolulu of heart failure. He was 76.
A friend of Buffett, Ho introduced Jimmy for his Live In Hawaii album that was released in 2005.
The trio of Alan Jackson, George Strait and Jimmy Buffett scored the No. 11 spot with ‘Live at Texas Stadium,’ a 15-song live album from a 2004 Dallas concert. The MCA Nashville album sold 67,000 units.

Reg Henry, columnist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, writes a column on Jimmy Buffett and Parrotheads: “The parrotheads are not the silly ones”
Unlike many who have become famous, the singer of catchy escapist tunes appears not to have made himself into the back end of a horse. On the other hand, his many fans arguably do make spectacles of themselves, as optometrists do at their office parties. In the case of the Jimmy Buffett fans, they have this thing for putting parrots on their heads.
