60 Minutes remembered Ed Bradley tonight, including a special piece on his friends by Steve Kroft that included an interview with close friend Jimmy Buffett.

“I’m just glad I got here, my wife called me and said – I was in Hawaii – and said, ‘You need to get back here and see Ed.’ And I’m glad I made it,” Buffett said in the special as he fought back tears.

Taylor Hicks Wants Fans Like Parrotheads

American Idol winner Taylor Hicks wants to have the same sort of following that Jimmy Buffett has. He explains in an MTV News article:

Hicks kicked off a press tour last week and plans to launch a full trek at the end of February that will “hopefully last 10 years,” he said.

And he’s not entirely joking. After all, another one of his idols is road warrior Jimmy Buffett. “As a performer for so long you have this mentality of [wanting] everybody who comes to your show to be Parrotheads,” Hicks explained, using the nickname given to Buffett’s loyal followers. “The Parrothead mentality is like a gathering, a social event — it’s not only about the music, but it’s about the people you meet all over the country. That’s what I strive for as a performer: to have a traveling circus of fans.”

Buffett Sings National Anthem at Saints Game

Jimmy is mentioned in The Mercury News’ write-up of Sunday’s Saints-49ers game where he sang the national anthem:

Thanks to Reggie Bush’s explosive effort, the Saints won their eighth game and are in position to not only make the playoffs but to host a game. Local favorite Jimmy Buffett sang the national anthem and was given a game ball. He gave it back to Bush and said he’d wait to get one from him in Miami – site of the Super Bowl. A preposterous idea a few weeks ago. Not so far-fetched now.
