Jimmy Buffett continues to be one of the hottest tickets in all of music. Ticket marketplace StubHub has “put together a list of America’s 20 Most Rockin’ Cities. Shows in these cities have been the most active sellers on StubHub this summer with rankings based on total sales for concert events only, occurring between May 15th and September 15th.”

Additionally, StubHub has included the most popular show for each city that made the Top 20. New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago finished one, two and three respectively, and Madonna’s Confessions Tour was the top grossing act in each city. Interestingly, Madonna and Jimmy Buffett combined as the favorite shows for more than half of the cities in the top 20.

View the top 20 list here.

“Fan loyalty is a true indicator of quality performers. This summer has been filled with great concert tours and fans are showing their support in large numbers,” said Jeff Fluhr, founder and CEO. “Madonna is always a huge draw when she tours but the realization that Jimmy Buffett continues to pack ‘em in across the country is eye-opening and a testament to his legions of fans.”

StubHub also notes that “Jimmy Buffett’s 20-stop tour has the highest per date average, based on total sales. Nationwide, the average price for a ticket has been $130.”

In today’s edition of the Boston Herald, Steve Morse has an interview with Buffett. He answers the question of why he is calling the new album “Nothing But A Breeze.”

Q. You have a new album due this fall. Weren’t you also going to title it “Party at the End of the World”?

A. Yes, but I learned a long time ago that if you have to explain it, it’s not really a good title. People said to me, “What does it mean? Is it the end of the world? Is there a party? What?” There were too many questions for an album title. So I came up with “Nothing But a Breeze,” from the old Jesse Winchester song. I won’t have to explain that.

Boston Herald: "Buffett A Selling Machine"

The Boston Herald has an article exploring Buffett’s wealth: “A pirate looks at $40 million-plus: Behind the beach bum image, Jimmy Buffett is a selling machine”

For a guy who began busking on the streets of New Orleans in the early ’70s, Buffett hasn’t done too badly. After a few flop records early on, he hit gold and then platinum singing about booze and food: Not only did he change attitudes and latitudes, he changed his tax bracket.

Buffett’s most lucrative gig is touring. But these live shows also serve as promotion for the rest of King Parrothead’s products. Though record sales make up only a tiny part of his business, Buffett has pimped his best known song, “Margaritaville,” to market everything from his restaurants and cafes to his tequilas and frozen foods. Here’s a look at just a few of the offerings from his empire that help earn him an estimated $60 million to $70 million a year. His image may say beach bum, but his bank account says Buffett.
