Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band brought their Party At The End Of The World Tour into Irvine, California on Thursday night for the first of two shows. Buffett to Play Myrtle Beach M'Ville
Jimmy Buffett will perform at the Myrtle Beach Margaritaville for the first time ever on Thursday, May 4th. The Sun News has the story: Feeling lucky? You’ll need to be if you want to catch Jimmy Buffett’s first performance at his Margaritaville restaurant in Myrtle Beach. About 300 fans will win their way into the May 4 evening show through radio contests and daily drawings at Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise, the two local eateries affiliated with Buffett. Tickets will not go on sale. Too much demand for too few spots, said Mike Whitmer, Margaritaville’s general manager. Chances to win one of those spots will start some time next week. The two radio stations that will give away the tickets haven’t yet been named. Some details of the gig still are up in the air, including what time the concert will start. The restaurant will be closed that day. Read the entire article here.
OC Register Review of Irvine Show
Gary Robbins of the Orange County Register wrote a review of Thursday night’s Irvine, California show: This time around, Buffett was energetic, wistful and direct. He opened the show with a solo version of “Boat Drinks,” a drinking song for a well-lubricated crowd. His Parrothead fans had been tipping margaritas in the parking lot for hours. (One woman was giving them away in exchange for a kiss.) What made the song special was the vibe Buffett gave off. He seemed to be saying he was genuinely thrilled to be in Irvine on a cool spring night, just as the stars began to appear through the haze. He spoke fondly of California all evening, and gave an impish apology for dissing the state in one of his oldest hits, “Come Monday.” He also took a big risk, which caught me off guard. Early in the show, he and his band covered one of the most cherished songs of the 1960s, “California Dreamin’.” by the Mamas and the Papas. Buffett doesn’t have a broad vocal range. But he gave the song its due, and the harmonies of the Coral Reefer Band were tight and lush.
