The one in New Orleans is only closed temporarily. They are moving to a new location that is scheduled to open in the spring. So, yeah, right now, though, it's closed.

Right.

Supposedly it's "moving'. I haven't heard anything about it lately. Last I knew was Jackson Brewery (aka Jax), the top floor but even that is speculation.

This article was in the Sunday paper last week.

How does Margaritaville make itself more relevant to people in their 30s? What fuels sales of those licensed products once Buffett, 69, has warbled his last warble?

It's a subject that Cohlan, who is Margaritaville's chief executive, was not especially keen to discuss. Asked about how the company thinks about a future without its public face, Cohlan said, “Jimmy Buffett is an American treasure,” and changed the subject.

This blows my mind. You think the Jimmy of the 1970s would approve of this?

...items include a $799 hammock and $159 penny loafers.

Was just up to Pigeon Forge, TN and not only was I shocked at what Pigeon Forge is but deciding to go to the M restaurant (which is across the "street" from the hotel) because, for some reason, I was hoping it would have decent sea food, I was floored.

It's huge.

And the food SUCKS!

So... up to Gatlinburg. Go by the LandShark Bar & Grill... that made me laugh out loud and then say REALLY? In Tennessee?

Much to my giggling disgust, around the corner was a big sign for the 2018 opening of the Gatlinburg Margaritaville Hotel! But... there's one not quite 4 miles away!!!!!!!!!

Ate and drank at the Smoky Mountain Brewery, which had decent seafood actually, then went to... the LandShark Bar.

Why?

I had to see what the hell it was. Got a LandShark on tap. Tastes no different than the bottle. But whatever.

What a disappointment. The place feels more like an empty Walgreens than a bar. Or a shiny Shoneys. It's just... bad.

I wonder about that a lot. They even have a nice family friendly Margaritaville Musical now. I often wonder what the Jimmy Buffett we grew up on (who sang about smuggling, screwing, drinking, etc) would think about all this.

I would bet he thinks. Wow that's a nice new plane I just bought.

I think the old Jimmy that used to show up in dive bars and sit with people and have a few drinks and pick up a guitar and sing a few songs and tell a couple stories is long gone.

Unfortunately I think you're right.
