You’ll Never Work In Dis Bidness Again by Jimmy Buffett, Josh Leo, Matt Betton, Vince Melamed, Michael Utley, and Wilie Weeks

He told it to the monkeys and they didn’t talk back
Then he told the old iguana and he didn’t attack

They told me before I started
That it never ever would work out
Stay in school, don’t be a fool
But I had to see what life is about

So I went to Biloxi seeking fortune and fame
I got hired, I got fired, I got called dirty names
You’ll never never work in dis bidness again
No you’ll never, no never
Never work in dis bidness again

I knew I needed representation
and I found it one night in a bar
He was a bondsman and a part time agent
And he said that he would make me a star

He said, "You don’t have to be that good
To make it out in Hollywood
You just have to change and complain."
Or you’ll never, never work in dis bidness again
You’ll never, no, never, never work in dis bidness again

(INSTRUMENTAL)

I parked cars at the Rainbow
I sold maps of the stars
I got my nose broken in Spago’s
When I puked on the bar

All I played’s a double barmitzvah
Bubba played a double bar mitzvah

It’s a jungle out there
We love it
Hell, I don’t care
I’m going back to my parrothead friends
I will never, never work in dis bidness again
No, I’ll never, no never, never work in this bidness again
You’ll never, never work in this bidness again

The City by Mac McAnally

As a child on the farm
I was warned of the wiles of the city
Of that demon disguised
As the dirt in the skies of the city

Well they say the proximity warps their minds
Until they’re shooting one another just pass the time
And we live it appeared
Both in spite and in fear of the city

I was constantly told
How our lives were controlled by the city
How they keep us in debt
With the trends that they set it’s a pity

How the beautiful people in the magazines
Got the normal ones living beyond their means
And the things that they said
Made me go in my head to the city

When I finally came
There’s some things still the same in the city
Your still under the thumb
Of the rich and the young and the pretty

Well they weren’t much different than we might act
If there was that many of us that closely packed
It’s an ancient idea
But it struck me so clear in the city

Last Mango In Paris by Jimmy Buffett, Marshall Chapman, Will Jennings, and Michael Utley

I went down to Captain Tony’s to get out of the heat
When I heard a voice call out to me, "Son, come have a seat"
I had to search my memory as I looked into those eyes
Our lives change like the weather but a legend never dies

He said, "I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
And "Jimmy, there’s still so much to be done."

I had a third world girl in Buzios
With a pistol in each hand
She always kept me covered
As we moved from land to land
I had a damn good run on wall street
With my high fashion model wife
Woke up dry beneath the African sky
Just me and my Swiss Army knife

I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
And Jimmy there’s still so much to be done

We shot the breeze for hours
As the sun fell from the skies
And like the sun he disappeared before my very eyes
It was somewhere past dark-thirty
When I went back to the head
I read upon the dingy wall
The words the old man said

I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
And Jimmy there’s still so much to be done

I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
And Jimmy there’s still so much to be done

That’s why we wonder and follow la vie dansante

Come Monday by Jimmy Buffett

Headin’ up to San Francisco
for the Labor Day weekend show
I’ve got my hush-puppies on
I guess I never was meant for
glitter rock and roll
And honey I didn’t know
that I’d be missin’ you so

(Chorus)
Come Monday It’ll be all right
Come Monday I’ll be holding you tight
I spent four lonely days in a brown L.A. haze
and I just want you back by my side

Yes it’s been quite a summer
rent-a-cars and west bound trains
And now your off on vacation
some things are hard to explain
And Yes since love you so that’s
the reason I just let you go

Chorus

I can’t help it honey
your that much a part of me now
Remember the night in Montana when
we said there’d be no room for doubt

I hope your enjoyin’ the scen’ry
I know that it’s pretty out there
We can go hikin on Tuesday
with you I could walk anywhere
California has worn me quite thin
So nice to be in Georgia again

End Chorus

Today’s Message by Jimmy Buffett

“Oh yes. Welcome, welcome all. In the middle of this parrothead madness this evening we thought it would be appropriate to take a few minutes of your time to reflect on a little spiritual, spiritual healing. Heal’em up sister. We have such a choir with us this evening. We can’t wait to hear all of you sing with us. That’s why we’re here. We heard you all on a couple of songs already. The only thing is, it’s not nice to beat Jimmy to the words of his own song.” “Yes, we white people been working on rhythm for a while but we’ve got a long way to go. So when we get to this next song we’d like for you to sing. I know that some of you may be a little hesitant here. The climate that’s going around these days because some pea-brained people think that some of my songs are obscene and nasty. We know better don’t we?

But I just feel sorry for the ones that don’t. It’s just that the times have moved so far ahead of ‘em they’re back in the pea-brained past.”

“Time has moved so fast, I will give you a couple of examples. Today, a pair of tennis shoes costs more than a lot of your first automobiles did. I had a hundred dollar pick-up truck back in those days. I know. Can I get an AMEN for a hundred dollar pick-up truck?”

“Today there are two Madonnas. Our Lady of Fatima over here, and that woman from Michigan runnin’ around Italy with Warren Beatty over here. Looks like Helen of Troy. Sue me baby sue me, yeah.”

“And uh, we don’t want you to think of this song in those terms because this song that we’re about to get you to help us with is not a nasty, obscene song. It is a love song, from a slightly different point of view, that’s all. And before we sing it we just want to bring you a little message of peace, prosperity, and hope in such a trouble world today. But Reverened Jim has a few things he thinks could work to solve our world problems and our world tensions.”

“First of all, we send all the presidents of the savings and loans associations over to run the country of Iraq. That would solve two problems right there. And world peace, I’ve got an answer for world peace. We take the money that it’d cost us to build just one B-1 bomber, that one that doesn’t work. We change it into five dollar bills. We put all of this money into bags and we fly over the Atlantic Ocean, past Europe because they’re getting their shit togehter anyway. We drop this money on the Russian people. All those little tiny pictures of Abraham Lincoln come tumblin’ down out of the sky. I want them to feel those sawbucks in their hands. You know how your money feels when you accidently leave it in your blue jeans and you take it out and it’s all warm and soft, oooh! Well we let those Russian people hang on to that money for about a week and then we fly back over there. We fill our airplanes full of mail order catalogs from L.L. Bean. From up in Columbus, Sporty’s Pilot Shop. And Victoria’s Secret! The Russian people have this money in their hand, the catalogs come down. They look at those pictures on the opening pages of the Victoria’s Secret catalog, not back in the outdoors section, you know what I’m talking about right? They got the money, they got the catalogs, they’re going to get the idea. They send all the money back to us to buy the stuff. We have full employment. There’s world peace, and the Russians have crotch-less underwear through the twenty-first century! Thank you!”

“So I hope you have no hesitation about joining us in this song. As I said, it is just a love song, from a different point of view.”

A Love Song (From a Different Point of View) by Jimmy Buffett

I really do appreciate the fact you’re sittin’ here
Your voice sounds so wonderful
But your face don’t look too clear
Barmaid, bring a pitcher, another round of brew
Let’s hear it, why don’t we get drunk and screw

(Chorus)
Why don’t we get drunk and screw
I just bought a waterbed filled up for me and you
They say you are a snuff queen, Honey, I don’t think that’s true
So, why don’t we get drunk and screw
(Instrumental)
Why don’t we get drunk and screw
I just bought a waterbed filled up with Elmer’s Glue
They say you are a snuff queen, let’s see what all you Macho Man can do
So, why don’t we get drunk and screw

One Particular Harbour

IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI

I know I don’t get there often enough
But God knows I surely try
It’s a magic kind of medicine
That no doctor could prescribe

I used to rule my world from a pay phone
And ships out on the sea
But now times are rough
And I got too much stuff
Can’t explain the likes of me

But there’s this one particular harbour
So far but yet so near
Where I see the days as they fade away
And finally disappear

But now I think about the good times
Down in the Caribbean sunshine
In my younger days I was so bad
Laughin’ about all the fun we had

I’ve seen enough to feel the world spin
Mixin’ different oceans meetin’ cousins
Listen to the drummers and the night sounds
Listen to the singers make the world go ’round

IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI

Lakes below the mountains
Fow into the sea
Like oils applied to canvas
They permeate through me

And there’s that one particular harbour
Sheltered from the wind
Where the children play on the shore each day
And all are safe within

Most mysterious calling harbour
So far but yet so near
I can see the day when my hair’s full gray
And I finally disappear

IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI

UA PAU TE MAITAI NO TE FENUA
RE ZAI NOA RA TE ORA O TE MITIE

Bounty of the land is exhausted
But there’s still abundance on the sea

Honey Do by Jimmy Buffett and Michael Utley

You never try to keep the wild ones home
But mister don’t just sit there and wait
Go out on the town makin’ all of the rounds
It don’t matter if you’re your own date

Vacantly occupied, sat on the beach til my body got fried
Dreamin’ of your pretty eyes up in South Carolina
I can’t pronounce my r’s or g’s when I’m speakin’ Southerneese
Honey do, Honey, come and do me again

I’ve seen that fat cat style
Three hundred pounds of jive ass smile
Young girls gigglin’ all the while
That’s not my cup of chowder

I go for candlelight
Cold champagne every friday night
Honey, do a little toast to me and you

Honey, why couldn’t you have taken the non stop train
I’m hungry and I really want to see you again

I know it’s gettin’ late
Waiter keeps starin’ at your empty plate
Maitre’d keeps tellin’ me
"Sir, she’s just not coming."

What the hell does Utley know
We’ve been through all this before
Honey do, Little toast to me and you

Honey, why couldn’t you have taken the non stop train?
I’m hungry and I really want to see you again

Vacantly occupied, sat on the beach til my body got fried
Dreamin’ of your pretty eyes up in South Carolina
I can’t pronounce my r’s or g’s when I’m speakin’ Southerneese
Honey do, Honey come and do me again
Yeah, Honey do, Honey come and do me again

Cheeseburger In Paradise by Jimmy Buffett

Tried to amend my carnivorous habits
Made it nearly seventy days
Losin’ weight without speed, eatin’ sunflower seeds
Drinkin’ lots of carrot juice and soakin’ up rays
But at night I’d have these wonderful dreams
Some kind of sensuous treat
Not zucchini, fettucini, or bulgar wheat
But a big warm bun and a huge hunk of meat

Cheeseburger is paradise
Heaven on earth with an onion slice
Not too particular, not too precise
I’m just a cheeseburger in paradise

Heard about the oldtime sailor men
They eat the same thing again and again
Warm beer and bread they say could raise the dead
Well, it reminds me of the menu at a Holiday Inn
But times have changed for sailors these days
When I’m in port I get what I need
Not just Havanas or bananas or daiquiris
But that American creation on which I feed!

Cheeseburger is paradise medium rare with mustard be nice
Not too particular, not too precise
I’m just a cheeseburger in paradise

I like mine with lettuce and tomato
Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes
Big kosher pickle and a cold draught beer
Well, good god Almighty which way do I steer

For a cheeseburger in paradise
Makin’ the best of every virtue and vice
Worth every damn bit of sacrifice
To get a cheeseburger in paradise
To be a cheeseburger in paradise
I’m just a cheeseburger in paradise

A Pirate Looks At Forty by Jimmy Buffett

Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters
since I was three feet tall
You’ve seen it all, you’ve seen it all

Watch the men who rode you
Switch from sails to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasure
that few have ever seen, most of them dreams
Most of them dreams

Yes, I am a pirate two hundred years too late
The cannons don’t thunder there’s nothin’ to plunder
I’m an over forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

I’ve done a bit of smugglin’
I’ve run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami
But I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last, never meant to last

I have been drunk now for over two weeks
I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks
But I’ve got to stop wishin’
Got to go fishin’, I’m down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends, just a few friends
“Nice to see all of our Friends every year, Thank You Friends!”

Instrumental

I go for younger women, lived with several awhile
And though I ran away, they’ll come back one day
And I still could manage a smile, Chill!
It just takes awhile, just takes awhile

Mother, mother ocean, after all my years I’ve found
My occupational hazard being my occupations
just not around
I feel like I’ve drowned
but I want wear a frown
Feel like I’ve drowned
I’m gonna go check out, peachtree street is somewhere down town

Jolly Mon Sing by Jimmy Buffett, Michael Utley, and Will Jennings

There is a tale that the island people tell
Don’t care if it is true ’cause I love it so well
Jolly Mon sang for his supper every night
The people fed him well ’cause he treated them so right

Oh Jolly Mon sing
Oh make Orion ring

And they wanted him to sing on the islands near and far
He always found his way by Orion the lucky star
He’d tell them of their joys, he’d tell them of their woes
They’d love to see him come and hate to see him go

Oh Jolly Mon sing
Oh make the music ring

He was making his way home on a dark and stormy night
When he heard a cry for help, he saw a flashing light
When he reached the other boat and offered him a hand
They said, "Give us all your cargo." as they took a pirate stand

Oh Jolly Mon sing
Oh give them everything

"Jolly Mon it’s over - Sing your last song very well"
They tossed him in the ocean cause their hearts were made in hell
Came along a dolphin, he said,"Jolly Mon Hello"
"I’ve always loved your singing - climb on board and don’t let go."

Oh Jolly Mon sing
Oh make the oceans ring

The night was filled with magic as they bid the sea goodbye
They swam into the heavens - they stayed up in the sky
And all the island people when they wish upon a star
See the dolphin and the Jolly Mon who tell them where they are

Oh Jolly Mon sing
Oh make the heavens ring
Oh Jolly Mon sing
Oh make the magic ring

Gypsies In The Palace by Jimmy Buffett, Glenn Frey, and Will Jennings

So long Boss, knock ‘em dead, don’t worry ’bout a thing
Wish that we could come along, we’d love to hear you sing
The limo’s here, your bags are packed, the list is by the phone,
Me and Snake will watch your place and treat it like our own

Look at all this liquor
Look at all this food
It’s only gonna go to waste
We’re not really being rude
But the good stuff’s in his closet, I swear he wouldn’t mind
Hell, we”ll just shoot the lock off, I do it all the time

We’re gypsies in the palace, he’s left us here alone
The order of the sleepless knights will now assume the throne
We ain’t got no money, we ain’t fot no fight
But we’re gypsies in the palace, we got it all tonight

There’s damsels in distress out there and we got all this beer
We’ll free them from their condos and bring them over here
We’ll show them his gold records
We’ll play his music loud
We’ll party just like Bubba does
We’ll do the old man proud

We’re gypsies in the palace, there ain’t no wrong or right
We’re gypsies in the palace, and we’re going wild tonight

He’s the greatest guy to work for, man, he’s really cool
Hey Snake, this party’s getting dull, throw someone in the pool
Hey, let’s all take our clothes off and form a conga line
Watch out for that broken glass, hey Snake, we need more wine

We’re gypsies in the palace, there ain’t no wrong or right
We’re gypsies in the palace and we’re raising hell tonight

Oh, hi there Boss, what’s going on?
You say you’re coming when?
I’ll send Snake to pick you tomorrow night at ten, okay

Everybody out of here, this joint is closing down
We’ve got to find someone to clean this up,
He’s coming back to town

Hi there boss, we waxed your car, we raked and mowed
your lawn
We couldn’t find enough to do in the short time you
were gone

Man it sure is peaceful here, you really got it all
If you ever hit the road again, give me and Snake
a call

We’re gypsies in the palace, he’s left us here alone
The order of the Sleepless Knights will now assume
the throne
We ain’t got no money, we ain’t got no right
But we’re gypsies in the palace, we got it all tonight

Fins by Jimmy Buffett, Barry Chance, Tom Corcoran, and Deborah McColl

She came down from Cincinnati
It took her three days on the train
Lookin’ for some peace and quiet
hoped to see the sun again
lives down by the ocean
takin’ care to look for sharks
They hang out down around the waterfront way
And feed right after dark

Chorus
Can’t you feel ‘em circlin’ (closin’in) honey
Can’t you feel ‘em swimmin’ around
You got fins to the left, fins to the right
and your the only bait in town
You got fins to the left, fins to the right
and your the only girl in town

She’s savin’ up most of her money
Wants to head south in May
Maybe roll in the sand with a rock’n'roll man
Somewhere down Montserrat way
But the money’s good in the season
Helps to lighten her load
Boys keep her high as the months go by
She’s gettin’ postcards from the road

Chorus

Sailed off to Antigua.
It took her three days on a boat
Lookin’ for some peace and quiet
Maybe keep her dreams afloat
But now she feels like a remora
’cause the school’s still close at hand
Just behind the reef are the big white teeth
of the sharks that swim on land

Chorus

Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett

Nibblin’ on sponge cake
watchin’ the sun bake
All of these parrotheads covered with oil
Strummin’ my six string on my front porch swing
Smell those shrimp
They’re beginnin’ to boil (bubble bubble bubble)

Wasted away again in Margaritaville
Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
And I know, this is usally some woman’s fault

Don’t know the reason
Stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new tatoo
But it’s a real beauty
Oh those Atlanta cuties, well over the years
I have met me a few

Wasted away again in Margaritaville
Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
Now you really think, I’m gonna admit this is my fault?

I blew out my flip flop
Stepped on a pop top
I broke my leg twice, had to limp on back home
But there’s booze in the blender
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on

Wasted away again in Margaritaville
Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
But I know, it’s my own damn fault
Yes, and some people claim that there’s a woman to blame, And I know it’s my own damn fault

Jamaica Farewell by Lord Burgess

Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
But when I reached Jamaica I made the stop

Now I’m sad to say
I’m on my way (on my way)
I won’t be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town

Sounds of laughter everywhere
And the dancing girls sway to and fro
I must declare my heart is there
Though I have been from Maine to Mexico

Still I’m sad to say
I’m on my way (on my way)
I won’t be back for many day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town

Down at the market you can hear
Ladies cry out while on their heads they bear
Ackev rice, salt fish are nice
Oh the rum is fine anytime of year

Now I’m sad to say
I’m on my way (on my way)
I won’t be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town

Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
But when I reached Jamaica I made her stop

Now I’m sad to say
I’m on my way (on my way)
I won’t be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town

Volcano by Jimmy Buffett, Keith Sykes, and Harry Dailey

Hey, I don’t know, I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
when the volcano blow
Let me hear ya
I don’t know, I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
when the volcano blow

Ground, she movin’ under me
Tidal waves out on the sea
Sulphur smoke up in the sky
Parrotheads they all know how to fly

Chorus
I don’t know, I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
when the volcano blow
Let me hear you now
I don’t know, I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
when the volcano blow

My girl quickly say to me,
"Hey James you better watch your feet."
Lava come down soft and hot
"You better lava me now or lava me not

Chorus

No time to count what I’m worth
cause I just left the planet Earth
Where I go I hope there’s rhum
After these 2 shows I’m gonna have me some

Chorus

But I don’t want to land in New York City
I don’t want to land in Mexico
I don’t want to land on no Three Mile Island
I don’t want to see my skin a-glow

Don’t want to land in Comanche Sky Park
or in Nashville, Tennessee
I don’t want to land in no San Juan airport
Customs there they hassle me

Don’t want to land San Diego
I’d rather land where I can see
I don’t want to land on no Gulf of cedra
Cincinnati’s fine with me

Chorus
