In the early to mid 80's, fans of Jimmy Buffett in Cincinnati began dressing up in tropical gear for the shows at King's Island. In 1985, while looking out on the sea of fans in all their beach wear, Buffett and former Coral Reefer Tim Schmit first coined the term "Parrotheads."
In the 20 years that have passed, Parrotheads have become one of the most loyal fans bases of any musician ever. Thousands pour into Buffett shows a year, spending the better half of the day tailgating in the parking lot. You see everything from cars with fins on the roof to business men in coconut bras.
It's not all about partying, Parrotheads worldwide contribute thousands of dollars and countless hours to charities. Parrotheads in Paradise is the international club of Parrotheads. They currently have over 210 clubs in multiple countries with 25,000+ members and raised over 2.7 million dollars for charities in 2005.
