Ken Griffey Jr. (99 percent of vote), Mike Piazza head to Cooperstown

Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
Griffey set a record in voting, earning 99.3 percent of the vote (437 of 440 ballots). No inductee has ever received 100 percent of the vote. Selected No. 1 overall by the Seattle Mariners in the 1987 draft, Griffey becomes the first No. 1 pick to be enshrined at Cooperstown.
Mike Piazza was selected in his fourth year on the ballot. While Griffey was a highly-touted prodigious talent that scouts salivated over, Piazza was a 62nd-round pick selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988 as a favor to Piazza's father who was friends with Tommy Lasorda.

Surprised to hear that Griffey was the first number one to go in.
