2 accused of shoplifting at shop with cop event
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Two men are accused of using the Portland Police Bureau's annual "Shop With a Cop" back-to-school event as a chance to shoplift.

Police spokeswoman Kelli Sheffer says roughly 60 officers were helping 155 children pick out clothes at a local store Wednesday when the suspects started stuffing shoes, tools and other merchandise into backpacks.

Store security spotted the illicit activity and helped officers arrest 30-year-old Jason Vantress and 20-year-old Shane Alexander.

Though shoplifting with a store full of cops seems risky, Sheffer says the pair figured the officers would be distracted.

Fla. man denies cocaine found in buttocks is his

BRADENTON, Fla. -- When sheriff's deputies allegedly discovered a bags of marijuana and cocaine between a man's buttocks, they said he gave a quick explanation. Manatee County deputies said Raymond Stanley Roberts told them "The white stuff is not mine, but the weed is."

Deputies stopped the 25-year-old Wednesday in Bradenton for speeding. Officers said they smelled marijuana and searched him. That's when they allegedly found a bag of marijuana between Roberts' buttocks.

Officers then discovered another bag in there; the report said it contained 27 pieces of rock cocaine.

The Bradenton Herald reported Roberts was arrested for drug possession and has bonded out of jail. The person who answered Friday at a phone number listed for Roberts said it wasn't his.

Wanted woman flags down police: Am I wanted?

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOCKLAND, Ohio -- Police in suburban Cincinnati arrested a woman after she flagged an officer down and asked if there were any warrants out for her arrest. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Friday that after Lockland police officer Dan Lyons informed 44-year-old Selma Elmore she did have an outstanding warrant, the woman ran off. The chase ended when Elmore pushed Lyons into a building, injuring his elbow.

Other officers responding to a call for backup later apprehended the woman.

Elmore, wanted for allegedly failing to pay a fine as a result of a drug conviction, now faces a charge of resisting arrest.

Hamilton County Jail records did not list an attorney for Elmore.

Police: Thief made off with new pair of jeans and left behind his old denim — and his wallet

Associated Press
Last update: October 19, 2010 - 8:24 PM

GALLATIN, Tenn. - Police in Tennessee say it wasn't too difficult to find a man accused of walking out of a Walmart store wearing stolen jeans. He left his old denim behind — along with his wallet.

Officers in Gallatin said 20-year-old Dustin Matthew Marshall tried on the jeans and left without paying for them, but employees found his old jeans and wallet in a dressing room.

WTVF-TV reported police caught up with Marshall and a 19-year-old woman who was with him on Saturday night after a couple ducked out of a Longhorn Steakhouse without paying their bill.

A search of their home turned up evidence of other crimes.

Marshall and his companion were booked into the Sumner County Jail on charges of theft, burglary and other counts. Court officials said Tuesday that neither has an attorney.
