Please help me settle a friendly bet. Did Jimmy ever record a cover of Harry Nilsson's Coconut song? It would appear to be a natural, but save for a singe Wikipedia entry of "The Coconut Song" I can't find any evidence. My friend claims to have downloaded a cover of the song with License to Chill via LimeWire.

Thanks!

Not that I know of. Is the name of the song "Coconut"?

I know that the Pina Colada Song circulated on the file sharing networks like Limewire with Jimmy Buffett as the singer but it wasn't actually Jimmy singing it.

Yep, the name of the song is "Coconut." It was originally released in 1971 by Harry Nilsson in his signature "Nilsson Schmilsson" album.

Never heard Buffett sing a song like that. Doesn't mean he didn't, but I think I've heard pretty much everything that Jimmy has put out.

You've probably heard the song - it has a distinctive and repetitive "lime in the coconut" phrase in the lyrics.

Would you be able to tell if it is Jimmy if you listen to your friends song then you would know?

They sound exactly alike - that isn't enough to convince the lad...

Ok I did a search for lyrics on maragaritaville and it did not pull up that Buffett ever did the song.
