Too Many Live Albums?

His first live LP is brilliant. 1978's YOU HAD TO BE THERE is supreme.

12 years later, FEEDING FRENZY. Essentially a neutered JB compared to YHTBT anyway. In some aspects, some questionable tracks - did we really need In The City or three tracks from LAST MANGO IN PARIS? Come on. Nothing from OFF TO SEE THE LIZARD? I didn't care for that.

1999 comes the third live album, a pretty good one actually, TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS, SATURDAYS.

And then... it seems, a gazillion live releases once Mailboat Records got going. The TIKI TIME tour was just... at least LIVE IN HAWAII is pretty good. So 4 live albums from that tour, then there's Fenway, Wrigley, Texas Stadium, Anguilla - which is pretty damn good, and ENCORES.

That's 8 live albums (Texas doesn't really count) in a matter of a few years!!!

I've thought the same thing. There was a glut of live album releases for a while. I wonder if it was the only way Mailboat Records had the right to issue JB's music at the time.

I have to agree with this too. YHTBT, FF, and TTS were all very good and then the cascade of all the others took away some of the mystique

I love YHTBT, TTS, and Encores. (And the beach set songs from Anguilla). I was REALLY hoping JB would release that "Treasure Chest" rarities album he hinted at a few years ago. I would have taken that over another live release. I was disappointed with Welcome to Fin City.

WELCOME TO FIN CITY at least sounds better than most of the recent live releases. Definitely better than FENWAY.

Could've done without Brown Eyed Girl... again. That piece of shit is on 5 live albums.

LTC sounds decent, the one on FENWAY sounds like shit! That whole album sounds like shit, like it was recorded on a phone. WRIGLEY sounds decent.

Pencil Thin-Mustache is pretty good, very similar to what's on T, TH & S.

Life Is A Tire Swing is nice, it's good.

I have a soft spot for Bama Breeze, which is pretty good on this album.

You might want to give WTFC! another try! It's a decent recent live album.
