Paul McCartney, FedEx Forum, Memphis, May 26th.
There were 38 songs in the setlist, including songs from the Beatles, Wings and his solo albums. Paul was pretty impressive, especially for a 70 year old!

Mike Cooley of Drive-By Truckers doing a solo acoustic show at the Local 506 in Chapel Hill this past Saturday night. Here's a couple clips, the first one is a brand new song called "First Air of Autumn". Hopefully that's destined to appear on the next Truckers album.

Jason Isbell at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh last night. Very nice to see him playing to a packed house in support of what's turning out to be his most successful album to date (Southeastern). There's been a lot of positive press surrounding this album and for good reason, it features some of his best songwriting and performances so far in his career. Quite a remarkable achievement in a day and age where it's even more difficult to be successful in a musical climate in which artists like Isbell receive very little to no support from traditional outlets such as commercial radio.

My co-workers wife won 5th row tickets for tonights show off 101.9. Saw MB20 way back when they first came out. Only got tickets so I could scalp them. Ended up with really good seats. And before I got a chance to sell them they announced Soul Asylum was opening up that night. I went. Stayed for most of MB20, but left probably 3/4 through their set. Glad to hear that they have improved.

Even though Killer was one of the first albums I ever bought as a kid back in the early to mid-70's, I never saw Alice in concert until his Theatre of Death tour in 2009. I have to agree that he still excels at what he does and that he stands as a shining example that you can indeed age gracefully in rock n' roll without acting like you're still 19 years old.

Last concert I saw was Don Dixon at the Casbah in Durham, NC earlier this week. While he's most well known for producing records by R.E.M., the Smithereens, the Connells, Hootie and the Blowfish, etc. he is also an outstanding performer and songwriter in his own right (he also occasionally tours with Mary Chapin-Carpenter as the bassist in her band). To top that off, he was once a member of a NC based band called Arrogance that was instrumental (pardon the pun) in putting independent rock n' roll music on the map back in the 70's and 80's, which paved the way for Let's Active, the dB's, R.E.M., etc. in latter years.
