i am not a big country fan by any means, but i kinda like that keith urban dude......he writes some catchy tunes. They are much more pop-like than some of the others which is probably why i like his work.

The "pop-like" nature of today's country is why I don't particularly care for the majority of it at all. As much as he's missed, I think Johnny Cash got outta here just in time...

With all due respect to fans of Rascal Flatts, I think of them as the 00s equivalent of Sawyer Brown and Restless Heart back in the 80s when "country" music really started to experience a significant downfall. There was some hope back then with artists like Dwight Yoakam, Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle, K.D. Lang and Lyle Lovett breaking through but that "roots" movement was pretty short lived. These days Steve Earle refers to it as the "great roots credibility scare of the late 80s". Out of those, at least Dwight is still out there duking it out with the more mainstream artists on "country" radio. All I can do is say thank goodness for X-Country on XM.

I wouldn't even compare Sawyer Brown to Rascal Flatts. I can see where you see/hear the pop in Rascal Flatts, but Sawyer Brown are quite country to me

I don't mean they sound identical just that I wouldn't confuse either of them for what used to be called "country" music. At the time I speak of (mid to late 80s) there were lots of other artists on the verge of breaking through that had more in common with traditional country but very few of them suceeded, Dwight being one of them.

To each their own but I've never found Retchin' Wilson all that attractive myself. I much prefer Tift Merritt, and in my humble opinion, she's way more talented too...
