Rush R-30 Deluxe Edition DVD/CD

I'm not all the way through this but it kicks ass in ways I would have never imagined. I can feel a Rush back catalog binge coming on.

Fountains of Wayne Out of State Plates

I bought this sight unheard but on the strength of it making so many year end Top Ten lists. My knowledge of them consists of their contributions to the move That Thing You Do (they were the actual "band") and their single that begins with a decidedly Cars bent, "Stacy's Mom". Plus I'm really needing to feed my pop music jones as of late especially after getting hooked on that new Nada Surf disc.

VH1 Classic ran portions of the 30th anniversary tour from Frankfurt germany this weekend. I only caught parts of it, but sett he DVR so I could catch the whole thing when I get a chance. They are an amazing live band -- probably the best I've seen.

I'll have to pick this up......I gave Grace Under Pressure a listen this weekend......great hard synth-rock album. Jah, If you don't hve it already, I recommend 2112 of all the early albums.

Rush is one of the best live bands I've ever seen as well. Unfortunately, like so many of the bands I was into back in the 70s I never really got a chance to see a lot of them until years later. I really love this DVD and haven't even dug into the extras yet. Next on my list is their Live in Rio DVD which I hear is really good.

As far as their back catalog, I have a lot of stuff on vinyl and CD but not all of it so 2112 is missing from my collection but I've heard it many, many times. It is one of the great epic rock tracks of all time. In fact, I wish they would get back into doing that but they seem to be satisfied with the more radio friendly length songs they started doing since Moving Pictures.

At times I think they have gotten a little synth heavy but I do love Grace Under Pressure and think it's one of their better latter day albums.

These four were all vinyl purchases. I found the Cheech & Chong record used with giant rolling paper still intact.

On CD:

Honky Tonk Heroes and Michael Stipe's In the Sun were both early Valentine's Day gifts.

Another gift I received over the weekend, the new split single from The Cartridge Family and Terry Anderson's Olympic Ass Kickin' Team, each featuring a cut not included on their latest releases.

I really don't know how rare copies of that album are with the rolling paper intact but I was quite surprised. At $2 it was definitely a bargain.

I don't know either but I'd hazzard a guess that they are very rare indeed. Well done.
