License to Chill album released 11 yrs ago this month (July)

Post by HavanaMatt » Tue Jul 07, 2015 2:22 pm

License to Chill, the 24th album by Jimmy Buffett was released in 2004.

It is his only album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. LTC was released on 13 July 2004,
sold 238,600 copies in its 1st week of release according to Nielsen SoundScan.

On this album, Buffett has many duets with noted country music artists, on country songs including
"Hey Good Lookin’" by Hank Williams.

This rendition reached No. 8 on the Billboard country singles charts; another single, "Trip Around the Sun"
(a duet with Martina McBride) reached No. 20. The album features the most covers he's recorded for an
album - 11 of the 16 songs are covers.

It is hard to believe that it's been 11 years since LTC was released

This album got me my start to the Buffett scene, and now the rest is history.
LTC is a top favorite 8-)

The best song from the LTC sessions is A Salty Piece Of Land!

I love "A Salty Piece of Land" as well as "Coast of Carolina," which I believe is one of his best original songs of the past 20 years, or at least since the "Banana Wind" album. While License to Chill isn't the first album on my playlist, it isn't as bad, to me, as some have maligned it to be over the years, however. I remember buying this album a week before going on family vacation in 2004 (I was 19) and playing it in my car CD player the entire trip down to the beach following my parents who were pulling our camper. That was just as I was coming into my own with Jimmy's music and still a good nine months before my first Buffett show in 2005
There are jobs and chores and questions and plates I need to twirl, but tonight I'll take my chances on the far side of the world

I would agree with this. Certainly in the 2000's-2010's

LTC had the least amount of JB songs on it (or at least something he wrote with someone else as well) of all his albums: 5 songs, 7 including A Salty Piece Of Land and Trouble On The Horizon, which were recorded for LTC, the two of which were the only all JB songs from the sessions, until...

TTWWY, which has FOUR songs that JB has to do with! Zero all JB to boot! Unless you count the boring HBT Here We Are.
