I wanted to like tonight's show. I've been looking forward to it with the hope it will get me excited about Jimmy's music again. However, it didn't do it. It's not that it wasn't a good show-it was. There just isn't any song that makes me look forward to the show. "If the Phone Doesn't Ring" was great to hear again but I have little confidence it will last half the tour (it didn't last time). "Come Monday" was finally rescued from the beach band (isn't Come Monday the whole point of Doyle being in the band?). Maybe I will take another year off and try again.
First of all, I truely believe there can never be a bad Buffett concert. However, I do kind of agree. I know there has only been one show but I was really hoping that he would mix it up a little bit more this tour. I really wanted him to mix in an acoustic set like he used to with either him solo or with Mac. Even in a leg or two of the '08 tour he started the show off with a solo song, which isn't too significant but still it's different. To my recollection, he did nothing like that in Summerzcool.
I understand Jimmy's point of playing the songs that everyone wants to hear and I'll admit that if he did not play the standards at the first concert I attended I would have been very disappointed. However, now that my Buffett experience has progressed, I would really like him to mix up the set lists more than just 2-3 songs per show, or 6-8 from tour to tour.
Anyway, I apologize for all the bitching. I really am excited for the tour and can't wait to be in attendance Thursday night. Love you Jimmy!
