More Indio and Cubana smokes, this time at another bar in another town (Opera Bar in Nuevo Progreso, TAM). Notice that the labels are changing on the bottles. Indio is a regional beer and I have seen at least three different labels for the same brew.
Hey, it's Mexico!

Nothing would totally surprise me. One night we asked for a shot of some premium tequila (Hornitos? Patron?) and Deb and I both realized immediately that they had poured cheap tequila (or mezcal) into the bottle. This guy -

ran down the street to another bar to get his manager. We negotiated, they apologized, and we got some free shots out of it.
All in good fun. I was back there just a few days ago. They always watch my bike when I park on the street, although I'd say that my bikes are safer on the main drag in Nuevo Progreso than they would be in most US cities.

The Opera Bar is actually much more expensive than the Mission Bar. Opera Bar is a bit of a sh*thole, whereas Mission Bar is actually very, very nice even by US standards (bartenders are super polite, they wear uniform shirts, etc.).
Indio Beer at the Mission Bar is only ten pesos (about 75 cents US) whereas it's maybe $1.50 at most places in Progreso.
Tequila is maybe twenty pesos at the Mission Bar.
So as you can see, a person can get relatively crashed for $15 or so en Mexico.
