Pirates sign 3B David Freese to a 1-yr deal, per a club announcement. He will earn $3MM on a straight guarantee
without any available incentives. Freese played for the Cardinals & Angels previously.

Angels acquire SS Brendan Ryan from Nationals
The Halos have acquired INF Brendan Ryan from WAS for cash considerations. He is a replacement for
Andrelton Simmons who is out with a torn ligament in his thumb.

Cubs sign P Joe Nathan (5/17/16)
The Cubbies have signed veteran reliever Joe Nathan to a major league deal, the team announced.
Nathan will immediately go onto the 60-day DL, meaning he won’t cost the club a 40-man spot.
The deal also includes incentives that could boost its value, though details on that clause remain unknown.
Nathan was effective as recently as 2013. But he fell off upon joining the Tigers via free agency and ultimately
succumbed to Tommy John surgery early last year. He has reportedly been rehabbing on his own while waiting
for an opportunity to arise.

Mets acquire 1B James Loney from Padres
NYM have acquired Loney from the SD for cash considerations, SD has announced. Loney had an
opt-out in his minor-league deal with the Friars, although the move that brings him to NY is a trade. The bulk
of Loney’s 2016 salary will be paid by the Rays, who signed him to a 3-yr deal prior to the 2014 season and then
released him in early April.
The Mets were on the lookout for a 1B with Lucas Duda out for a significant stretch due to a stress fracture in his back.
