Post by HavanaMatt » Wed Oct 14, 2015 4:22 pm

Drop some MLB news here 8-) 8-)

Mariners dismiss manager Lloyd McClendon
The M's have formally announced that McClendon will not return as skipper in 2016, SEA also reassigned
2 of their coaches within the organization and let go 3 other coaches.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dodgers to part ways with manager Don Mattingly
Don Mattingly and the Dodgers have mutually decided to part ways, according to a report from Jon Heyman
of CBSSports.com. Mattingly had served as the team’s manager for the last 5 seasons.

There was a season left on Mattingly’s deal, and the Dodgers offered him an extension of unknown duration,
according to a report.

Mattingly oversaw 3 straight NL West division winners and 5 consecutive winning ballclubs. The Dodgers’
post-season performances haven’t matched their regular season marks. Los Angeles won just one playoff
series under Mattingly’s command.

The manager carousel begins 8-)

Marlins to name Don Mattingly new manager
MIA will hire Mattingly to a 4-yr deal to lead the fish, a formal announcement probably won't come until
after the World Series. Mattingly will be the 8th Marlins manager since 2010.

Nationals to hire Bud Black as new manager
Bud Black will be named new manager of the Nats, he was said to be one of two finalists, with former
Giants/Cubs/Reds manager Dusty Baker the other reported name under consideration.

Padres to hire D-backs 3B coach Andy Green as new manager
SD will name Green as their new skipper, and he will instantly become one of the youngest managers
in baseball. Former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire & Pirates coach Rick Sofield were the runners up in
the Padres gig.

Nats hire Dusty Baker after lowballing Bud Black.
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/11/nationa ... ting-offer

According to a report from USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale, the Nationals made Black an offer for just a one-year contract at $1.6 million, and refused to go higher than two years for a deal in negotiations with Black. While $1.6 million is certainly a lot of money, that’s very low for an MLB manager, especially with only one year of job security. For comparison, Don Mattingly just received a four year, $10 million contract from the Miami Marlins. Black understandably didn’t like the terms of the deal, so the Nationals went to their second choice and announced the hire of Baker on Tuesday.

A suprising turn of events there ;) , but good for Dusty Baker. He's a good baseball man, I enjoyed his tenure
as the Cubs manager from 2003-2006. Wish he was still in the Cubbie blue ;)

A couple trades go down at the GM meetings

Angels acquire SS Andrelton Simmons from Braves
LAA has acquired SS Andrelton Simmons & C Jose Briceno from ATL for LHP Sean Newcomb and RHP Chris Ellis
and long-time Halos SS Erick Aybar. The Braves will pick up $2.5MM in the swap to offset some of Aybar’s salary.

Phillies acquire P Jeremy Hellickson from D-backs
Philly acquired P Jeremy Hellickson from ARI for righty Sam McWilliams . Hellickson will presumably help
fill out the rotation for a rebuilding Phillies team.

Red Sox acquire P Craig Kimbrel from Padres
BOS acquires star closer Craig Kimbrel from the Padres for 4 minor leaguers. BOS will now have both
Kimbrel and ace reliever Koji Uehara to lock down the late innings.

Mariners acquire P Joaquin Benoit from Padres
The M's get Benoit for 2 minors
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mariners acquire OF Leonys Martin from Rangers
The M's have acquired OF Leonys Martin and righty Anthony Bass from the Rangers in exchange for righty reliever
Tom Wilhelmsen, OF James Jones, and a player to be named later. Leonys Martin had fallen out of favor in TEX
after a rough 2015 season.

Tigers acquire P Francisco Rodriguez from Brewers
DET has acquired reliever Francisco Rodriguez from the Brewers for INF Javier Betancourt.
The Tigers will also send a player to be named in the deal. Detroit’s announcement mentions that it, too,
will receive a PTBNL, but both teams’ GM's have indicated that is not a straightforward aspect of the deal.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tigers also acquire OF Cameron Maybin from Braves
The Tigers acquire Cameron Maybin for lefties Ian Krol and Gabe Speier. Maybin returns to the organization
that made him a first-round pick back in 2005.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brewers acquire SS Jonathan Villar from Astros
MIL acquires SS Jonathan Villar from HOU in exchange for minor league RHP Cy Sneed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OAK has re-acquired Jed Lowrie from HOU in exchange for minor league RHP Brendan McCurry.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
