Braves acquire P Trevor Cahill from D-backs

The Braves have acquired righty Trevor Cahill and cash considerations from the Diamondbacks in exchange
for minor league OF Josh Elander. Both teams have officially announced the trade. The D’Backs will send
roughly $6.5MM to Atlanta to help cover Cahill’s $12MM salary for 2015, MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert reports.

Breaking : Padres acquire P Craig Kimbrel from Braves

The Pads are beginning the 2015 season with yet another blockbuster trade, receiving closer Craig Kimbrel
and OF Melvin Upton Jr. from the Braves for OF Cameron Maybin and OF Carlos Quentin, pitching prospect
Matt Wisler, outfield prospect Jordan Paroubeck and the 41st overall pick in the June draft.

Kimbrel is obviously the centerpiece of the deal, an elite closer who has posted dominant numbers since
arriving in the league in 2010. Kimbrel is signed through 2017 for $33MM plus a $1MM buyout on a $13MM
option for 2018.

ATL has DFA'd Carlos Quentin and are looking to trade him to an AL team who will take on his $$$.

2 Royals pitchers suspended

MLB announced Tuesday that Royals pitchers Kelvin Herrera and Yordano Ventura will be punished
for throwing at Brett Lawrie of the Oakland Athletics.

The A's received no penalty from the league after the 3 high-tension games that saw benches clear twice
and numerous ejections, particularly Sunday when five Royals were tossed.

Herrera has received a 5-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing a pitch in the
head area of Brett Lawrie of the A’s in the top of the 8th inning of the Sunday, April 19th game, with warnings
in place. Ventura has received an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing a pitch at Lawrie in the top of the
4th inning of the Saturday, April 18th game.

A couple tid-bits ...

Tigers P Joe Nathan has torn the ulnar collateral ligament as well as a tendon in his right elbow,
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports on Twitter. He will undergo surgery and miss the rest of
the '15 season.

Mariners sign OF Carlos Quentin to a minor league deal, Quentin started the season with the Padres,
then was dealt to Atlanta for P Craig Kimbrel. Then he was released by the Braves. Quentin can opt
out w/the M's by May 12th if he isn't called up.

Breaking : Brewers fire manager Ron Roenicke

The Brewers have announced that they’ve fired manager Ron Roenicke. The team says it will announce
his replacement at a press conference at 10:30am Monday. The Brews will not make any further changes
to their coaching staff at present, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com tweets.

Brewers posted a solid 342-331 record in 4-plus seasons with Roenicke at the helm, and he led the Brewers
to an NL Central division championship in 2011. The team also had winning records in 2012 and 2014, although
it collapsed badly down the stretch last season. It exercised its 2016 option on Roenicke in Spring Training, and
GM Doug Melvin said less than 2 weeks ago that he and owner Mark Attanasio weren’t even considering firing
Roenicke.

MIL has also said they will be open for any trades down the road.
