Next month Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith will perform together at a benefit concert in Tallahassee for hurricane relief:

Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith together with the Coral Reefer Band will unite to perform at a Florida Hurricane Benefit Concert, “Trying to Reason…” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Tucker Civic Center.

Proceeds of this benefit concert will help communities in Florida, Puerto Rico and the islands affected by hurricanes in 2017.

“Florida State University was fortunate to be spared from the worst of Hurricane Irma, but we know that was not the case for many of our fellow Floridians,” Florida State University President John Thrasher said. “We’re happy to be able to help our neighbors by hosting this benefit concert and hopefully offer some relief to those hardest hit by the storm.”

Buffett Writes About Star of His Broadway Musical

October 18th, 2017

Jimmy Buffett penned an article in Vanity Fair about finding his lead role in the musical ‘Escape to Margaritaville’

About 10 months ago, I was in New York casting the role of Tully Mars, the lead in my upcoming musical, Escape to Margaritaville. It debuts this month in New Orleans, where I started my singing career nearly 50 years ago, and heads to Broadway next March. While the show is not based on my life, it is chock-full of songs I wrote in the early years, when I was a singer playing in Key West bars and all along the Overseas Highway. Once in a while in the audition process there will be a performer who, by his or her entrance into the room, tells you that this is the one you are looking for. Enter Paul Alexander Nolan wearing a Hawaiian shirt, a pair of flip-flops, and a guitar strung across his back.

Once Paul had the part, he was full of questions about how to approach the songs and how to play Tully. My answer was simple: “You need to become him.” So we decided to send Paul to “bar-singer boot camp” in the Florida Keys. Stage performers are used to a silence in their workspace, while bar singers thrive in a cacophonous racket. Performing in a funky, loud Keys bar was something I felt Paul needed to experience.

So off we went to the Green Turtle Inn, in Islamorada, a place that was on my song line from past years. On March 7, 2017, along with about 150 bar patrons, we all came together to witness Paul Nolan’s debut as a bar singer, including a few duets with yours truly. I’m proud to say that Paul was a quick learner and graduated from “boot camp” with flying colors. Now we just need to work on his tan.

Buffett Releasing ‘Buried Treasure’ Album of Lost and Found Songs

October 5th, 2017

It was over six years ago that Jimmy Buffett teased a release called “Buried Treasure,” a collection of songs from his earliest days that were lost and had been found. You may have given up on this project, but it’s officially coming out in a month!

When legendary Nashville producer Buzz Cason sold his recording studio to John and Martina McBride, there was some cleaning up to do. That is when Jimmy learned that they had found a sizable collection of 1⁄4-inch tapes that were the demos of songs Jimmy had written and recorded for Buzz when he was writing for his publishing company. It turned out that there were over 125 songs in that pile of tape boxes. Also discovered were the original first recordings Travis Turk had engineered in Mobile, and that is where the whole story of Buried Treasure starts.

Track Listing:

Don’t Bring Me Candy
Circle Is Small
Abandoned On Tuesday
I Can’t Be Your Hero Today
Rickety Lane
Wino Has Something to Say
California Dreamin’
The Gypsy
Hopelessly Gone
Simple Pleasures
Close the World At Five

‘Buried Treasure’ will be released on November 17th, 2017. It’s available for pre-order now at Mailboat Records and at Amazon.

A deluxe package is also available that includes a 40-page Collector’s Book with Never-Before-Seen Photos, Bonus DVD 20-Minute Documentary with New Interviews.
