Buffett Files to Trademark “Coral Reefer”

June 30th, 2014

A Margaritaville-branded e-cigarette?

The Orlando Business Journal noticed an interesting trademark application filed by Margaritaville Enterprises LLC:

Is Jimmy Buffett — the Jimmy Buffett — getting ready to start selling electronic cigarettes in Florida? Or, with a bigger question mark, marijuana products?

Notice the question marks: Mr. Margaritaville didn’t return my call, and neither did the attorneys on this, so this is all unconfirmed right now.

But according to a trademark filed in January of this year, Margaritaville Enterprises LLC wants to trademark the term Coral Reefer.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office application, the trademark would be used to sell goods and services related to electronic cigarettes:

Electronic cigarettes; cigarettes; cigars; tobacco; herbs for smoking; cigarette holders; cigarette lighters; ashtrays, humidors, cigar cutters, hookahs, matches, cigar and cigarette boxes, cigarette papers, cigarette rolling machines, pocket apparatus for rolling cigarettes, smoking urns, tobacco substitute, tobacco tins; tobacco pouches; electronic cigarette refill cartridges sold empty; smoking pipes, smoking pipe cleaners, smoking pipe racks; smokeless cigar and cigarette vaporizers; tobacco grinders.

The feds have returned the application to Margaritaville to seek clarification that the applicant’s goods do not include anything marijuana related.

Margaritaville Syracuse Moving Forward

June 19th, 2014

It’s been a year and a half since we told you about the possibility of Margaritaville opening in Syracuse, New York, and it appears headed to fruition, according to Syracuse.com.

Assemblyman Al Stirpe, D-Cicero, confirmed that a bill he co-sponsored involving a major new tenant for the mall referred to Margaritaville. The bill, which would allow the bar and restaurant to open at Destiny, has passed the Senate and Assembly.

The mall hasn’t officially announced Margaritaville yet.

The chain appears to be heading for the vacant space across the hall from Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill on Destiny’s entertainment-focused third floor.

Destiny USA, previously known as the Carousel Center from 1990-2012, is a six-story super-regional shopping and entertainment complex on the shore of Onondaga Lake in Syracuse, New York. It is the sixth largest shopping center in the nation.

Buffett Purchases Beverly Hills Home

June 18th, 2014

According to Variety, Jimmy Buffett has purchased a home in Beverly Hills, California for $8.25 million.

news_bevhillshome

The two-time Grammy nominee and his longtime second missus, Jane, have long owned multi-million dollar homes and compounds in Palm Beach (FL), the Hamptons (NY), and St. Barts and, in April of this year, they quietly shelled out $8.25 million for a freshly and fastidiously rehabbed mid-century minded pied-a-terre in the Trousdale estates area of Beverly Hills.*

The seller, according to all the various property record data bases Your Mama consulted, was Hollywood theatrical marketing guru Matt Brubaker (of Trailer Park) who acquired the property from a non-celebrity couple in late December 2012 for $5.8 million. A look back over digital listings from the time Mister Brubaker bought the property show he gave the interiors a thorough cosmetic overhaul and flipped it back on the market in the early days of 2014 with an asking price of $8.399 million.

Originally built in 1963, the single-story home sits behinds a stainless steel gate that slides open to a teeny-weeny motor court and side-facing two-car attached garage with stainless steel doors. Another stainless steel gate opens from the motor court to a walled entry courtyard where a long and shallow water channel must be crossed in order to get to the all-glass front door. (It is just Your Mama who finds stainless steel driveway gates and garage doors to be an impressively expensive if depressingly passé, turn-of-the-21st-century architectural conceit?)
