Jimmy Buffett’s Recession Strategy

posted November 7th, 2008 at 10:32 am

by Josh Martin

The Condé Nast Portfolio has an article on Jimmy Buffett’s recession strategy:

Buffett, the king of easy living, is set to do well in this recession. He’s the first to tell you he sells escapism, allowing his audiences to forget their job insecurity, slumping home values, the market, and instead parachute into paradise for a little while.

I caught up with Buffett last week at Bette Midler’s annual Hulaween Ball. Donning a smoking jacket and pencil-thin mustache as the lady-lovin’ Continental made famous by Christopher Walken on Saturday Night Live, Buffett mused on the economy. In down times like these, with companies laying people off, it’s important for people to find and focus on their niche, he said.

Parade in Key West to Honor Captain Tony

posted November 5th, 2008 at 11:23 am

by Josh Martin

Following services on Saturday in Key West for Captain Tony Tarracino, a street party and parade will take place on Greene Street to celebrate his life:

Visitation for Tarracino will be held at Dean-Lopez Funeral Home at 418 Simonton St. Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be Saturday at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church at 1010 Windsor Lane at 11 a.m.

That likely will be followed by something he would have rejoiced in: A parade and street party in his honor.

The parade, if approved by the City Commission, would start at noon and run down Greene Street — in front of Captain Tony’s Saloon — between Duval and Whitehead. Following the parade, the same area will be closed to traffic from 1 to 3 p.m. to accommodate the crowd expected to gather in honor of Tarracino.

Tarracino was a dear friend of Buffett’s. Read more about him here.
